Automobile Accident Injuries.

Florida Law gives you the right to choose your Doctor for auto injury treatment.  If you need an attorney, we work with several good firms who we can help acquaint you with.  Life Mission Chiropractic will help you understand the process involved with your insurance company.  A lot of people don’t realize that mandatory state law in Florida dictates that if you have been in an auto accident, the PIP of your own automobile insurance policy is the first insurance to bill for any medical treatment rendered to patients injured in auto accidents.  

Whiplash Injury happens very quickly and is very damaging to the spine and nerve system.  When struck from behind in a rear end accident the head and neck move backwards and flex downward.  The lower neck is forced to hyper-extend, and the trunk of the body is pushed forward.  (This all takes place in 1/20th second (50ms) where the neck has an S shape with possible facet injury in the lower neck).  1/10th second later all levels extend, likely after the moment of injury.

Obviously this happens so fast that you may literally not know what hit you and not be aware of the extent of your injury yet.  Sometimes symptoms may not manifest right away. Because of this people may be mislead into thinking that they are not injured.  Whiplash injury results in connective tissue damage (muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves) in the neck and back. Appropriate care will help to minimize scar tissue formation.

Automobile Accidents are a leading cause of permanent injury and impairment.  Activities of Daily living can be adversely affected from pain and loss of function.  Appropriate evaluation and corrective rehabilitative measures should be taken as soon as possible.

• Dial 911 to report the accident and any injuries.  Florida Law – a police report must be completed after all accidents involving property damage $500, injury, or death.

• If possible, move your vehicle to the side of the road and turn off your ignition.  Stand away         from your vehicle in case another car hits it again.

• Avoid discussing fault with the other parties involved.  Cooperate fully with the police.

• Exchange information with all parties involved in the accident including writing down all           drivers’ license info, insurance information, and registration numbers.

• Get contact information from witnesses

• If you are experiencing any pain, seek medical attention immediately

• Get a photo of your vehicle and of any injuries sustained from the crash.  You may want to   take a picture of the other vehicles and the crash scene.

• Protect your rights.  You are not required to give any statements to the other party’s insurance company.
